Richmond is an idyllic London suburb with plenty to do and see in its scenic riverside setting. Despite being such a draw, we saw a gap in the market for a central hotel. We acquired two office buildings within this hotspot and decided to maximise the site’s potential by bringing a stand-out Travelodge to the town.
We worked closely with Travelodge to create the optimum hotel within the space available. The site did have its challenges, as it stood enclosed on two sides by residential properties, with many others close by. We had to be extremely considerate in how we demolished the previous buildings, and in how we intended to construct the new hotel scheme. With careful planning, we were able to ensure minimal disruption and delivery of the project as promptly as possible.
The end result is a 78-bed hotel befitting of Richmond, both as much-needed accommodation, and as a striking building that surpasses the original offices. It’s a Travelodge like no other, with impressive design inside and out.
Its high occupancy rates prove it’s a worthwhile addition, allowing the town to showcase what it has to offer to visitors. With an attractive 35-year lease on the table, Travelodge are committed to supporting Richmond as a destination. This was a first for HBD and Travelodge, but the project sparked a great relationship and we’ve since gone on to develop their latest hotel in Bromley, with more on the horizon.
